Erlton & Mission Homes For Sale
Luxury Mission Real Estate
While historically, Calgary’s Mission area has seen a large percentage of rental housing, that trend is slowly changing as the community continues to see improvements as part of a City Area Redevelopment Plan. Case and point: Mission now holds the record for the most expensive condominium sale in Calgary history, after the penthouse of The River development sold for $8.99 Million in Spring 2012, a sign of the extreme desirability of this neighbourhood. While luxury properties for sale in these areas are rare, there are often opportunities for the savvy real estate investor.
Mission Calgary Community Information
Mission is one of Calgary’s oldest and most historically rich areas. The community was originally founded in 1875 as a Roman Catholic mission called Notre Dame de la Paix. In 1883, two quarter-sections were set aside as a formal Mission district to ensure a strong French speaking Catholic presence. Following this, the area was incorporated as the Village of Rouleauville in 1899, and then annexed by the city of Calgary in 1907. Today, there are several parks and monuments that pay homage to this unique history, perhaps most notably, in Rouleavuille Square. In contrast, the community of Erlton is fairly new to Calgary, only recently evolving into the luxury urban area it is today.
Living in Mission Calgary
With roughly 4300 residents in an area of .53 km², Mission is certainly one of Calgary’s more densely populated areas. In fact, it has the second highest population density in Calgary, with 8.65 persons/m². This is made possible because of the many high-rise condos in the area. Erlton is just under Calgary’s average at 2.47 persons/m². As a result of this high population, the area is brimming with a number of popular pubs, fine dining restaurants, bustling street cafes and boutiques in the nearby 4th Street District – perhaps reminiscent of Mission’s French roots. But perhaps the best feature for residents living in Mission, the nearby Elbow River pathways and parks, Stampede Grounds and Talisman Centre, provide numerous recreational opportunities right next door.
